Drug delivery to the brain – lipid nanoparticles-based approach

چکیده

The complex structure of the human brain defines it as one most inaccessible organs in terms drug delivery. blood-brain barrier (BBB) represents a microvascular network involved transporting substances between blood and central nervous system (CNS) – enabling entry nutrients simultaneously restricting influx pathogens toxins. However, its role protective shield for CNS also restricts access to brain. Since many drugs cannot cross BBB due unsuitable physicochemical characteristics (i.e., high molecular weight, aqueous solubility, etc.), different technological strategies have been developed ensure sufficient bioavailability. Among these, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) nanostructured carriers (NLCs) are promising approaches thanks their nature, facilitating uptake, small sizes, possibilities subsequent functionalization achieve targeted review focuses on applying SLNs NLCs nanocarriers delivery, outlining physiological factors influencing this process. Recent advances area summarized.
